FOR EDITORSWelcome to my (digital) office! Come in, take as much time as you want, pour a coffee and make yourself at home. And please give me a call, or email me, if there is something you don’t understand or that you’d like me to explain. If you have come this far in the website you will understand that I am serious about writing, and keen to market my work more widely. You will notice that, for security reasons, I have not posted entire articles, choosing instead to include enough of each to give an idea of its style and content. Uploading entire articles would also constitute ‘publishing’ them on the internet, which would prove counter-productive for editors wishing to purchase digital rights. Please feel free to browse the articles and feel free to discuss viewing the entire article or purchasing it. A pricing schedule is available on request. As you can see my husband and work-partner, Gordon Hammond, is a keen and accomplished photographer. To view galleries of his images visit www.gordonhammond.com.au. These may be purchased independently if you need them to accompany other articles in your publication, or at a discount if they are to be published with my work. This site is a work-in-progress, so please keep checking what is available. The destination menu on this page is a simple way of accessing articles according to logical categories. Putting material on a website is a time-consuming extra task in my already busy writing life, and although I am constantly adding new articles, it will be some time before it is complete. So please feel free to contact me if you would like to know if I can provide an article on a subject not already showing here. You will notice that some articles may have already been published in Australia. With these I will have sold ‘first Australian serial print rights’ but all other rights (including digital internet rights) are still generally available. In each case after the details of the article, the current available rights are clearly marked. While travel has emerged as a major interest for me, In the fourteen-plus years I have been a fulltime freelance writer, I have exercised a number of writing ‘muscles’ and have also written many profiles, humour, and lifestyle pieces, and some of these will also appear on the site in due course. My other main area of expertise is food writing. I am an established restaurant reviewer in Australia, and the author of several cookbooks and many food and dining guides. I have posted some of these articles on the site as well, drawing from an extensive background of writing on food and nutrition for many years for magazines in Australia. Perhaps the most important consideration for any editor purchasing completed articles from the web is ‘How dated are they?’ ‘Will they be still current?’ My answer is that each article will be prepared just as if you had commissioned me to personally work on a topic for you. Which is indeed what will be the case. While these articles are currently a specific length, each can be adapted to suit the needs of your publication. Also as part of the agreement with editors, each article will be thoroughly fact-checked and updated, with a fact file, if requested. Costing and method of payment are by direct negotiation.
