Chinta Ria

TEMPLE OF LOVE

That huge smiling Buddha presiding over the entrance may not look much like cupid, but Chinta Ria is subtitled 'the temple of love' so his powers must count for something. This temple to taste is secure enough in its attraction that you may only book for lunch, not dinner. But with Malaysian hawker style food, and often great jazz backing, no one seems to mind. Jazz flavours the menu too – Ella's wraps translates as prawns in fried pastry rolls and Ayam blues is really battered wok tossed chicken fillets, while Satchmo's squid and Sassy's duck turn up as specials. More traditional fried noodle dishes, laksa and rending  make you feel you've escaped to Asia, but the lights of Darling Harbour tell you you're home.
