Poetry on a Plate

This ‘inn of the poets’ opened a year ago, becoming popular with literary types, but also people who simply like fine Italian food.

It’s a lovely spot with a long library-like room lit with fairy lights, verandah dining behind and a shaded courtyard at the back. Inside, dozens of ‘poems’ from satisfied customers are pinned to an overcrowded board.

Chef-owner Aurelio Spagnuolo has owned a restaurant in London, and his wide experience shows.

This is the ideal place for a group to share the many antipasti, available individually like tapas, or on arranged platters. In fact all dishes are designed to share.

The menu bristles with Vs to indicate vegetarian options and our vegetarian antipasto platter included tiny mushrooms, spinach frittata, and cuculli – a creamy ricotta croquette.

There are other dishes too that reflect the chef’s penchant for recreating ancient Roman dishes.

Osteria dei Poeti,  73 Glebe Point Rd, Glebe, NSW. Phone 02 9571 8955. Open lunch Friday and Saturday, dinner Monday to Saturday. Licensed/BYO (corkage $5 per bottle).
