FACTS FOR FOODLOVERS
The first, The Foodies' Guide to Sydney 2008 compiled by two highly respected Sydney Morning Herald food writers, is a wonderful tool for someone like me who loves to shop and especially for someone who loves to shop for food in Sydney. It has over 450 places listed, everything I could possibly want to find: butchers, bakers, greengrocers, of course, but also how to locate more esoteric things such as exotic Middle Eastern foodstuffs and mysterious ingredients in Chinese food emporiums. It even lists the best cookery book shops and food websites. For trips south, The Foodies' Guide to Melbourne (also published by HGB) by the gurus of Melbourne food, Allan Campion and Michele Curtis, always comes in my suitcase. Real Flavours, by well-known food writer Glynn Christian, would be ideal as a companion volume to take along when doing all that shopping, as this book explains all the various foodstuffs you are likely to see on our travels. It's a thick book, absolutely packed with reliable information, and one I know I will have much fun with as I dip into its many categories. The Foodies' Guide to Sydney 2008 by John Newton and Helen Greenwood is published by Hardie Grant. RRP $29.95. Real Flavours by Glynn Christian is published by Hardie Grant. RRP $39.95. |
